Saint David's Day - A Day to CelebrateOn the 1st March Saint David's Day is celebrated in Wales. It's a very special day for the Welsh nation, used to remember the death of the Welsh patron Saint David. He was recognized as national patron saint at the height of Welsh resistance to the Normans, and passed away in 569AD. We’ve chosen to celebrate the day with you by featuring our two most popular Welsh blog articles. 1) The next generation of Welsh speakers. Maëlle Alquezar shared figures from the 2011 Census from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The statistics revealed that the number of children speaking Welsh was more than twice the number of people aged 16-64 (2.4 times) and those over 65 (2.3 times). 2) Why is it so hard to speak Welsh? Picking up on the topic of Welsh, Liz Estall investigated why it's so hard to speak Welsh. Even as a Welsh speaker. Liz shared with us her own experiences. Do you celebrate St. David's Day?
