Wolfestone are proud to announce that Managing Director, Alex Parr, has joined the Board of Social Enterprise for Age Cymru Swansea Bay in a directorship role.
Established in 1974, Age Cymru Swansea Bay are the leading charity for the support and care of older people in the Swansea area. From practical, every day domestic needs to providing information and guidance on legal issues and planning for the future, Age Cymru Swansea Bay’s charitable contribution is strongly relied upon in the local community.
Speaking about joining Age Cymru Swansea Bay’s Board of Social Enterprise, Ms Parr commented:
‘I am immensely proud and excited for the opportunity to work with Age Cymru Swansea Bay. They have a great team, led by Nicola Russell-Brooks, who do a fantastic job in Swansea and the surrounding areas.'
Giving Back to the Community
Over its ten years in business, Wolfestone has strongly committed to its
corporate social responsibility (CSR). The company has partnered with several different charities and has been an active presence in the community, volunteering in local initiatives and visiting schools and colleges to help develop key skills in future generations.
Ms Parr said: ‘
Whilst at Wolfestone, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with charities, including Tenovus, the YMCA and Oxfam. Not only raising money but also helping them with their communication and marketing activities. It felt good to give back, so I started looking for local charities, like Age Cymru Swansea Bay, who might also benefit from my experience.’
She continues:
“As funding streams begin to dry out, I feel it’s important for local leaders to step in and fill the void to help our charities flourish.’
The Future of Age Cymru Swansea Bay
To date, Age Cymru have received upwards of 20,000 calls to their advice helplines and have volunteered over 10,000 hours in the community. Age Cymru Swansea Bay’s Homecare Plus programme, which includes services such as domestic cleaning, garden and home maintenance, meal preparation and mobile hairdressing, has benefitted thousands of Swansea’s citizens in old age.
Nicola Russell-Brooks, CEO of Age Cymru Swansea Bay, commented:
‘Age Cymru Swansea Bay is thrilled that Alex has joined the board of our social enterprise. We are certain that Alex’s skills and experience will be of benefit to our clients and will help us develop the services we deliver under Homecare Plus even further.’
Just recently, Age Cymru Swansea Bay announced that it would be extending its services to include the Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend areas, and that the age restriction of 50+ years would be lifted. The aim of these changes is to ensure that any adult in the Western Bay area in need of advice or support will not be hindered by their location, and that by being more inclusive of younger people, generations of all ages will come together to support one another.
On what her future involvement with the charity will entail, Ms Parr offered: ‘
The organisation is currently going through a period of change, looking at how best to engage the community as a whole. I feel it’s important that there is social interaction between people of all ages for the good of the community. As a new director of the charity, I’ll be focusing on rolling out these changes.’
She continues, ‘it’s an honour to be associated with this wonderful charity and I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and starting work’.
