About the Hausa language
Hausa is a Chadic language and part of the Afroasiatic language family. It is the most widely spoken Chadic language, with around 58 million native speakers and a further 36 million second-language speakers, bringing the total to nearly 94 million.
Primarily spoken in northern Nigeria, southern Niger, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin and Chad, Hausa also has significant minority-speaking communities in the Ivory Coast and Sudan. It functions as a key lingua franca in West Africa, facilitating trade, diplomacy and cultural exchange across borders.
Linguistically, Hausa is notable for incorporating tone to distinguish meaning, despite originating from a largely non-tonal language family. Its vocabulary also includes loanwords from Arabic, English and French due to centuries of cultural contact.
For organisations working in West Africa or engaging with Hausa-speaking communities in the UK, accurate Hausa translation and interpreting are essential for effective communication and inclusion.

Wolfestone provides Hausa language services for industries including law, healthcare, NGOs, market research, life sciences and public services.
